It is very hard for any pet owner to know what the correct amount of food is to feed their pets on a day to day basis. Dog owners might vary their feeding depending on the type of dog they own and their personal lifestyle as and when the dogs eat; some are fed in the morning, some during the day and some in the evening, however cats maybe slightly be different. For example, some cats may have food in their bowl all the time for them to eat as they wish but are these ways good or bad for our pets? No one wants their animals to be to too skinny or obese, and this is why you should pay great attention to what you feed to your pet.
Dogs are really hard to distinguish the amount they should be eating as all dogs are different; there is a range of different of ages, breeds, and level of activity which the dogs undertake. To find the appropriate portion for your dog, you need to find out the correct weight your dog should actually be for the size and breed of him/her, next take a look on the back of the food packaging and it should indicate the correct portion for your pet. Although the problem is, if your dog weights either too much or is under weight then you will have to change the portion size to suit them. Obesity in pets is becoming more regular and could possibly lead to health issues. If your dog or puppy hasn't got the correct diet then this could lead to other problems such as: not eating at all, diarrhea, eating soil or grass, or having dry skin.
Cats tend to have a smaller appetite than dogs and therefore don't often pester the owner as much for their food, but again having the correct portion sizes are important. There are two types of food for cats, dry food, such as biscuits and wet food, such as canned meat. There is no real answer to whether wet food or dry food is better but normally it is normally up to what the cat actually prefers, however dry food does have a tendency to be more popular than wet. If your cat is currently eating wet food and you wish to change the best way to do it is over a 7 day period and start off by mixing it with their current food but gradually feed more and more dry food. Again the portion sizes for cats are normally on the back of the packaging, so depending on your cat's size each portion will differ.
