Socialization of Your New Pets

Having a new pet is going to be a fun and sometimes frustrating time. You need to learn how to control the animal so that you are making sure that they are happy and healthy and as friendly as possible with others.

You want to do a few things right from the beginning so that you are not faced with a problem later on down the road with your animal.  These are a few tips that may help you help your pet become more social.

Expose your pet to many different people.  You want your pet to be familiar with you and the other people that are living in your home.  You do not want them to be afraid of others so you need to try to introduce them to as many new people as possible.  You should let them socialize with other pets, adults and even children.  Get them used to both males and females so that they do not have a problem with one sex from another.

You should never force your pet on a new person and the other way around as well.  You want the introduction to go slowly and at the pace that is going to be comfortable for everyone.  You should also make sure that you are supervising any interaction with children because one or the other could become excited and this could lead to a problem.

A socialized pet is going to be familiar with the sounds and the thing around their home.  They will learn to know what the vacuum cleaner, hair dryer and lawn mower is.  Family members should be around when you are introducing these new things to the pet. This way they will not become scared or upset.

You need to let your new pet take in the new sights and surroundings that they are in.  Getting them exposed to the different surfaces and the things around them is going to be very helpful.  Let them explore their new surroundings and they will start to get comfortable with what is around them and where they are now living. Take them to some of the public places that you like to be in as well. This will get them familiar with other areas and they will become more social as well.

You may want to take away the food bowl during some meals.  This is not going to be done often but your pet will learn how to react to it in the right way. This will help them to eliminate their tempers.  You may want to try to feed your pet smaller meals more often. This will help them to keep calm and learn how to control their behavior when you take the dishes away.  Pets need to learn not to snap or growl when people take their food dishes away.

Get to know your pet. You have to make sure that you are learning as much about them as you want to. You need to get used to them.  Check their eyes, nose, throat, paws and limbs to make sure that they are fine.  This will also help the animal to get used to you and know your touch. This is going to be a good way to get closer to your pet and they will see that you care for them. The main goal is that you want your pet to be as comfortable with you as you are with them.

Take time to learn as much as you can about your pet. You need to spend time with them and get to know them. Let others also play with your animal and spend time with them too. This will get them more familiar with others and they will be more socialized and happier pets as well.
